HealthRock® Releases Free Download to Honor Children’s Dental Health Month

(Newton, MA, 02464 2/16/09) – February is Children’s Dental Health Month and what better way to remember it than a song by DocRock, aka Mache Seibel, MD. Going To The Dentist is a fun song that tells kids what to expect at a dentist appointment and why it’s important to go, states Dr. Mache. The song, subtitled Sip, Swish, Spit reduces some of the fear so often associated with going to the dentist. It is being offered as a free download for the remainder of February by going to www.HealthRock.com/podcasts and clicking on the download button next to the song.

Dental disease is the most common chronic disease of childhood, states Dr. Mache. It’s also a common reason for children to miss school. The bacteria in the mouth cause inflammation that leads to difficulty eating, sleeping and paying attention in school, states Dr. Mache, and that leads to a worse performance in school and more absences. As children grow into adults, the inflammation caused by tooth and gum disease can affect the lining of blood vessels in the body and lead to a heart attack.

Our goal is to work with kids, schools, dentists and other health care providers to make people more aware of the importance of taking care of their teeth, states Dr. Mache. It’s much more than just a beautiful smile. And the great thing is, with simple acts like brushing, flossing, and regular check ups, 90% of childhood tooth decay can be prevented.
