According to Giblin, founder of the menopause education and management program Red Hot Mamas, and Seibel (director, Complicated Menopause Program, Univ. of Massachusetts), an American woman enters menopause every four minutes. This book is written for those who want to use nutrition to help ease the transition. After opening with general menopause information and specific concerns such as hot flashes, osteoporosis, and weight gain, the authors combine forces with chefs and other contributors to offer a wide variety of recipes for every meal of the day. Recipes vary in difficulty, from a quick Strawberry-Yogurt Shake with three ingredients to a lobster dish with 38. While most are approachable, the more complicated recipes may be too daunting for some. Accompanying each dish is a nutritional analysis and notes on the beneficial properties of specific ingredients such as soy, flax, fish, fruits, and vegetables.
Verdict With its useful information and tempting recipes for women interested in their changing nutritional needs, this book’s content has an appeal similar to other menopause cookbooks, such as Elaine Magee’s The Change of Life Diet & Cookbook.—Jude Baldwin, Fairbanks North Star Borough P.L., AK

Dr. Mache Invited to Space Center Houston

Dr. Mache traveled to NASA for a keynote and workshop for hundreds of kids to celebrate Physics Day and discussed the importance of STEM careers. The performance was broadcast live throughout the Space Center.
